The Experience

The overwhelming first impression from the moment you play your first shot is ‘my god, this looks amazing’. Initially, we at Life of Android struggled to work out exactly how to line up a shot. After a very quick bit of tinkering, we discovered that switching aspect with the view controller (bottom left of the screen) to First Person worked best for us.
You can add swerve to your shots, displayed by the trail of the cue ball as you line up your shot, to bend the ball around obstructions and you can alter the height of you cue to the ball to control screwback.
Games-wise, you have four basic choices: snooker with a choice of 6- or 10-ball, or regular; pool, where you can choose between 8-ball US and UK, 9-ball straight pool, or pool drill (where you pot pre-nominated balls in sequence). Then there are two other, lesser known cue games on offer – Carrom and Crokinole.
The best way to explain Crokinole is to call it a cross between darts and bowls with draughts and a snooker cue… Have a go and you’ll see what we mean. And Carrom is a little like pool crossed with connect 4. We’ll stick with pool and snooker thanks.
The physics of Pool Break are sublime. There’s no other word for it. A hell of a lot of time has been spent making sure balls move correctly and the various shot options affect ball movement in an unerringly accurate way. It’s a physics engine that all pool and snooker games, regardless of format, should take note of.
Aesthetically, you can adjust table design and choose from four different scenery options. And aesthetics, as we’ve already said is one of the things that sets Pool Break apart from games like Touchpool 2D.
Sure, try the demo version if you must, but we guarantee that once you’ve grasped the control system, you’ll be prepared to pay twice, perhaps three times the asking price for Pool Break Pro.
